SMCLC Urges Gov Brown and Speaker Perez to Keep CEQA Intact During Budget Discussions
The state's budget difficulties have led large corporations with huge development projects to urge that California's Environmental Quality Act known as CEQA be gutted. CEQA is an important community governing tool that requires our City to have complete information about a project's significant environmental impacts before voting on it. The proposal is to eliminate the right of communities, individuals and groups to sue over a deficient Environmental Impact Report (EIR).
We urge others to write to the Governor and Speaker Perez about the importance of CEQA in enabling communities to keep local control over critical future land-use decisions.
